The customer required a biomass heating system to provide heating for one large farm house and one new build bungalow.
The farm house was originally heated by a solid fuel back boiler system and some radiators. This was replaced by an integrated central heating system controlled by room stats, with the heating provided by the biomass boiler via a heat exchanger unit installed in the lounge of the building. Additional radiators were installed to ensure that the each room reached the required temperature of 21 Degrees, even in the coldest of conditions.
The biomass boiler also provides heating and hot water to a new build bungalow; again, a heat exchanger setup was installed to transfer heat into the building. Underfloor heating was installed and the temperature reduced to accommodate the lower heating demands of the well-insulated building.
Rauvitherm twin insulated district heating pipe was used to get the heat to each building. Wood chip was the main fuel source so the boiler was set up to accept woodchip supplied by the customer from his own stock.
The installation of the boiler and buffer tank along with heat meters and controls to each area took just two weeks to install, with the radiator system taking a further week. Now up and running, the feedback from the customer is very positive, the farm house has never been so warm. Each room gets up to temperature and even though the building does not have the best of insulation it still remains warm in the coldest of conditions. The customer’s daughter and family are now living in the farm house and they certainly appreciate the difference.
With an estimated heating demand of 79,000kWh per year, the customer will benefit from £6,784.00 in RHI payments per year for 20 years rising each year with RPI, plus a significant £3,620.00 saving in the cost of the displaced fuel oil and direct electric heating.
